How can I define music?
If you do a simple Google search you can see this definition
Music is the art of arranging sounds in time through the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre. It is one of the universal cultural aspects of all human societies.
Music is something that is universal.
There might be alien civilizations who might be hosting some awesome concerts right now.
I think if we ever come across any extraterrestrial contact we should play COLDPLAY.
Music is a universal language right. I think it is somehow related to mathematics too.
Well, music is proven to be therapeutic. It can give you a feeling of lifting your soul. It can elevate your emotions. Whether it’s sadness or happiness.
I think we all associate some songs with emotions and the memories that come with them.
A Deja vu feeling sometimes.
For me, music is therapeutic as well as elevating.
I try to listen to different kinds of music. I mean as much as I can.
I think my taste in music has some maternal influence since that side of family members are known for their singing and I grew up hearing Carnatic music on one side and Michael Jackson, Aqua, Bon Jovi & Beatles on another.
But why do we like music?
According to Nurobeat “dopamine release is strongest when a piece of music reaches an emotional peak and the listener feels “chills”— the spine-tingling sensation of excitement and awe”
We hear the music because it gives us a kind of pleasure.
Some research says that the music one listens to can temporarily change a person's visual perception and affect what they think they see.
I had some experience in that case.
I used to hear Eminem. I still do. But, I think I started hearing Eminem during my teenage times.
During that time I joined some Facebook groups with a group of ‘STANS’ of Eminem
I used to go through the conversations and I used to talk with those strangers. Most of them were teenagers and were from different countries. They used to have chats and mostly random rap battles, dissing each other n ol. I improved my English from there even though most of the lines were cursing. Basically, it felt like a cult. But, it was a group of people with the same emotions who were united. Music can unite people.
Also, another thing I came across was his songs were solace for many (including me). So, I met this girl who was bullied so much at high school and she used to hear Eminem all the time.
Just like that music can impact people’s lives.
Recently, I was just curious about these Kpop bands. Especially BTS.
Due to my curiosity, I did a small survey and ol. I was curious about BTS because they were getting a lot of hate for some reason and a majority of their fanbase is teenage girls.
So, I got curious. What makes their songs so addictive for teenagers.
After asking some random people I got to know that their lyrics were something promoting self-love n stuff.
Then there were some people who were addicted to metal. I tried hearing metal but was not my cup of tea.
Recently I was amused by this band from Brazil named Barbatuques.
So, music gives different experiences to different people.
Most of the time, music is escapism.
That might be why we are addicted to it, more often than any other drug!
Here is my playlist if you wanna check it.
