Favourite movie
I would like to start with a genre. Because you cannot compare films otherwise. Mostly I like science fiction.
But, there are some movies with soul. Such kinda movies stay with you for a while and sometimes forever. It’s not the magical VFX or something but the core of it. The storytelling mostly. If that’s inspired by true events better.
Basically, I like movies that are inspired by biopics. These movies make me tear up. In that case, my favourite would be “Pursuit of Happyness” obviously**
Another one I can easily come up with is “Dead Poets Society”
I watched this movie only recently. But, some things are like this, it will come late but when you start with it you will get a feeling that no matter if it came late, it is gonna stay forever.
I only saw it once. (I’ll have to watch it again)
But, the movie gave me that kick. I think it gave that kick to everyone who watched it.
Here are some of my favorite lines from the movie:
“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”
―
N.H. Kleinbaum,
This line includes what we could all relate to with our life. And damn if only we could escape into the story, again and again, listen to what Keating has to tell his students.
He shouts
CARPE DIEM!
Seize the day, boys.
Make your lives extraordinary.
Another one here:
“I brought them up here to illustrate the point of conformity: the difficulty in maintaining your own beliefs in the face of others. Now, those of you -- I see the look in your eyes like, "I would've walked differently." Well, ask yourselves why you were clapping. Now, we all have a great need for acceptance. But you must trust that your beliefs are unique, your own, even though others may think them odd or unpopular, even though the herd may go, "That's baaaaad." Robert Frost said, "Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
―
Tom Schulman,
“I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.”
―
Tom Schulman,
The film clearly aligns with my perspective on life. I don’t believe we should just follow things because they are what they are and everybody follows them. You have to do things differently. Thinking you don’t have that freedom is the first mistake. Take the less-travelled path...be that black sheep, contribute your verse!
Another film that goes with the same vibe would be Taare Zameen Par.
